Universal Orlando Resort has undergone one of the most ambitious expansions in theme park history. Epic Universe, the resort’s third gate, opened its doors in summer 2025 and has already transformed the Central Florida landscape. If you’re planning a trip to Orlando, here’s everything you need to know about this game-changing addition.

What Makes Epic Universe Different

Epic Universe isn’t just another theme park—it’s a completely reimagined experience built from the ground up on 750 acres south of the main Universal Orlando campus. Unlike Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Florida, which evolved over decades, Epic Universe was designed as a cohesive whole with a central hub connecting distinct themed worlds.

The park features five immersive lands radiating from Celestial Park, the spectacular hub with its iconic constellation-themed water feature. Each land is entirely self-contained, with portals that transport you between worlds. You’ll find Super Nintendo World, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, Dark Universe (inspired by classic monsters), and a richly detailed Wizarding World expansion featuring the Ministry of Magic and 1920s Paris.

The scale here is impressive. Each land features multiple attractions, dining venues, and shops that stay completely in theme. When you step through the portal into Super Nintendo World, for instance, you’re fully immersed in a living video game environment complete with interactive elements throughout.

Planning Your Epic Universe Visit

Epic Universe operates separately from the other Universal parks, so you’ll need either a dedicated Epic Universe ticket or a three-park ticket to access all of Universal Orlando. The resort now offers multi-park passes that include all three gates, but carefully consider what makes sense for your trip length.

The park is located about fifteen minutes from the main Universal complex off Interstate 4. Universal provides complimentary shuttle service between Epic Universe and the original resort, running continuously throughout operating hours. If you’re staying at the new Universal Helios Grand Hotel (which opened adjacent to Epic Universe), you can walk directly into the park.

Give yourself a full day here—Epic Universe deserves it. The park typically opens at 9 AM, and you’ll want to arrive at least thirty minutes early. Unlike the older Universal parks, Epic Universe uses a virtual queue system for its most popular attractions. Download the Universal Orlando app before you arrive and familiarize yourself with how to join virtual queues, as some fill within minutes of park opening.

What Not to Miss

Start with Super Nintendo World’s Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge, the park’s most in-demand attraction. This innovative ride combines physical sets with augmented reality to put you inside a Mario Kart race. Join the virtual queue first thing, then explore the land while you wait for your boarding group.

The Dark Universe land brings Universal’s classic monsters to life in ways that honor the originals while feeling completely modern. Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment is a trackless dark ride that’s both thrilling and surprisingly moving. The land’s gothic architecture and atmospheric effects make it especially magical at night.

How to Train Your Dragon fans should prioritize the land’s flying theater attraction, which uses cutting-edge technology to simulate soaring through the skies on dragonback. The Isle of Berk is stunningly realized, with Viking architecture and dragon encounters around every corner.

Don’t overlook Celestial Park itself. This beautifully landscaped hub features the Constellation Carousel and the Starfall Racers dueling coaster, which offers some of the best views in the entire resort from its highest points.

Insider Tips for Epic Universe

The park is still drawing heavy crowds in its first full year of operation. Weekdays, especially Tuesday through Thursday, see notably lighter attendance than weekends. September and October (outside of Halloween Horror Nights weekends) and January through early February typically offer the best combination of good weather and manageable crowds.

Universal Express passes work at Epic Universe, but they’re priced significantly higher than at the other parks and still sell out on busy days. If your budget allows, they’re worth considering—they’ll save you hours of queue time.

Each themed land has distinct dining options that go far beyond typical theme park fare. The French fare in the Wizarding World’s Paris section and the Asian-fusion offerings in Super Nintendo World are genuinely excellent. Make reservations through the app for table-service restaurants at least a week in advance for weekend visits.

Photography enthusiasts should plan for the hour before closing, when Epic Universe’s lighting design really shines. The portals between lands are especially photogenic after dark, and Celestial Park’s nightly light show is worth staying for.

Summer in Florida means afternoon thunderstorms, so pack a poncho and plan indoor attractions for the 2-4 PM window. Many of Epic Universe’s headline attractions are entirely indoors or covered, making weather less disruptive than at some other Orlando parks.
